Blind Mime Ensemble: Covering Songs as a Tribute

Blind Mime Ensemble (BME) is not just about creating original music—it’s also about celebrating the music that inspires us. Covering songs by artists whose work resonates with us is a way to pay tribute while bringing their music into our unique sonic landscape.

An AI-Driven Interpretation

BME is Briyan Frederick’s AI-assisted music project, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with generative music tools. While our sound is rooted in electronic glitch aesthetics, it varies wildly in execution—sometimes leaning into haunting atmospheres, other times bursting with fractured beats and unexpected textures. This unpredictability makes every cover a reinterpretation rather than a replication.

Honoring the Original Artist

Every cover we create is done with deep respect for the original work. Rather than attempting a faithful reproduction, BME takes a song and transforms it through our creative process, using AI tools to explore new possibilities. This approach allows us to spotlight the emotional core of the song while reimagining it in a new context. Ideally, it encourages listeners to seek out the original work and appreciate the artist’s vision.

Why We Cover Songs

  • Tribute & Recognition – Covering a song is our way of honoring the artist who created it. Their work inspired us, and we hope to inspire others to explore their music.
  • Creative Reinterpretation – AI tools let us deconstruct and reconstruct songs in ways that bring out hidden dimensions.
  • Discovery & Engagement – By introducing a song in our style, we hope listeners will dive deeper into the original artist’s catalog.

A Wildly Varied Sound

Because BME thrives on experimentation, no two covers sound alike. Some tracks retain a recognizable structure, while others are abstract deconstructions of the original work. This fluidity is what makes each cover an exciting challenge and a new creative journey.

At its core, Blind Mime Ensemble’s approach to covering songs is about connection—to the music, to the artist, and to the audience. It’s a way of saying thank you while pushing the boundaries of sound.

If you hear a cover by BME, know that it comes from a place of deep appreciation and artistic curiosity. And if it makes you want to revisit the original, then we’ve done our job.

Blind Mime Ensemble is a project by Briyan Frederick powered by 40+ years of music and lyrics, old and new, seeded into AI models mainly in a glitchy electronic pop kind of vein with liberal experimentation and venturing outside the lines. You’ll hear elements of old bedroom 4-track songs, tapegerms and unearthed confessions mixed in, along with lots of brand new stuff.

Blind Mime Ensemble is also a virtual group fronted by two blind mime artists and lovers, developing a digital theatre of the absurd bound by a sublime vision of truth. The troupe is gearing up for its new concept tour under development.

Blind Mime Ensemble VS is a secondary project where BME creates albums from audio seeded from other artists, Tapegerms, videos, found recordings and more. It’s more experimental glitchy electronic and explores the boundaries of modern composition with AI and other methods.

Blind Mime Ensemble Variations  is where we explore variations of found sounds, art and maybe other things. These explorations result in album-length pieces. Send us something for us to into something new.
