This was written for the “A Dream” skirmish during February Album Writing Month (FAWM.org) 2025. Skirmishes on FAWM are when someone creates a prompt for a song participants must write the song in one hour.
Upon the posting of the prompt I went looking through some audio samples and came across a recording I’d made of seagulls at a junkyard and thought of tying that into dreams of the struggling class.
The lyrics came as I wrote, rather than having any definite idea. This February album is turning out to be a pretty dark take on our current state. Some of the lines are real. I live in a tiny rented duplex facing trax on 2nd West in Salt Lake. I hear the wails now just outside my door, in fact.
Junkyard Seagull Dreams
Are we all staking a position at the trough?
Feeding at the governmental slop
Petty food line crimes
We each commit to barely just survive
I wake up with the TV on
Some youtube channel streaming
Talking heads, no-nothing threads
But what was that
I was dreaming…
But lately all my dreams and schemes
Are like the dreams some days it seems
of Junkyard seagull dreams
They'll steal your crust of bread
To get ahead of where you tread
Mother's bled of all the dread
Of nasty little red-headed boys
With big boy toys…
And lately all my dreams and schemes
Are like the dreams some days it seems
of Junkyard seagull dreams
But Jonathan's barely living on the street
Outlook's bleak,
With broken beaks
Feeding on the inheritance
Of what's left to we, the meek
The screams of crack head whores
At 2am are whaling past my door
It's always one or another
That these, my brothers
Will not spare a dime to call
For whatever bother
And lately all my dreams and schemes
Are like the dreams some days it seems
of Junkyard seagull dreams

Blind Mime Ensemble is a project by Briyan Frederick powered by 40+ years of music and lyrics, old and new, seeded into AI models mainly in a glitchy electronic pop kind of vein with liberal experimentation and venturing outside the lines. You’ll hear elements of old bedroom 4-track songs, tapegerms and unearthed confessions mixed in, along with lots of brand new stuff.
Blind Mime Ensemble is also a virtual group fronted by two blind mime artists and lovers, developing a digital theatre of the absurd bound by a sublime vision of truth. The troupe is gearing up for its new concept tour under development.
Briyan is creating lyric videos for each recording. Subscribe by clicking the button below.
Blind Mime Ensemble VS is a secondary project where BME creates albums from audio seeded from other artists, Tapegerms, videos, found recordings and more. It’s more experimental glitchy electronic and explores the boundaries of modern composition with AI and other methods.
Blind Mime Ensemble Variations is where we explore variations of found sounds, art and maybe other things. These explorations result in album-length pieces. Send us something for us to into something new.
